About CanParrotEat
An independent reference for parrot owners. No ads-first content, no 2,000-word padding — one question, one answer, one page per food.
Why this exists
The question “can my parrot eat this?” gets asked thousands of times a day, and the answers online are usually buried in a long article that never states the amount. 76 foods are covered here, each on its own page, each with the same four things: the verdict, the reason, the symptoms, and what to feed instead.
How the data is built
- Each food is researched against avian veterinary references and published parrot-toxicity case reports — not scraped from other pet blogs.
- Every entry records the mechanism, not just a label. “Toxic” without “why” is useless when your bird has already eaten it.
- Where the evidence for parrots is thin — grapes, for example — the entry says so and is marked caution rather than being inflated into a warning.
- Portion guidance is written for a medium parrot (African grey / Amazon). Small species need less; the direction of the advice does not change.
What this site is not
It is not a veterinary service and it cannot examine your bird. Species, age, weight and existing liver or kidney disease all change the answer. When in doubt, the correct move is always to call an avian veterinarian — not to read one more page.
Corrections
If you find an error, say so at hello@canparroteat.com with the food and the source. Corrections are published with the next database update; the date of the last update is 2026-11-03.
Funding
The site is supported by display advertising. Advertising has no influence on a verdict — a food is never moved between categories for commercial reasons, because there is nothing commercial about a toxic list.
