Why
Honey and syrups are concentrated sugar. They feed yeast in the crop and contribute to fatty liver. Nothing in them that a parrot needs.
What to watch for
Signs that the amount was too much:
- yeast overgrowth
- weight gain
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for honey, mango gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat mango?
How much is too much
Not recommended.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
