- Yes — with limits

- A teaspoon of well-cooked, unsalted lentils mixed into chop, two or three times a week.
Why
Cooked lentils give parrots plant protein, iron and fibre, and they mix well into chop. Raw or half-cooked lentils are a different matter: they contain lectins that cause digestive upset and they swell inside the crop. Always cook them soft, with no salt.
How much is too much
A teaspoon of well-cooked, unsalted lentils mixed into chop, two or three times a week.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
