Can parrots eat lettuce?
Caution
OK but pointless — mostly water.

- Verdict
- Only in small amounts
- Amount
- A leaf occasionally, mixed into a chop with darker greens.
- Safer swap
- Kale
Why
Iceberg lettuce is 95% water with minimal nutrition. It fills the crop without delivering anything. Dark leafy greens are a better use of the same stomach space.
What to watch for
Signs that the amount was too much:
- watery droppings if fed heavily
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for lettuce, kale gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat kale?
How much is too much
A leaf occasionally, mixed into a chop with darker greens.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
