Can parrots eat peach?
Caution
Caution — the flesh is safe, the stone is not.
- Food
- Peach
- Category
- Fruit
- Verdict
- Only in small amounts
- Amount
- Two or three small slices, twice a week, stone and skin removed for small species.
- Safer swap
- Papaya
Why
Ripe peach flesh is non-toxic and most parrots enjoy it. The pit is the problem: it contains cyanogenic compounds and is large enough to block the crop or gut of a small bird. Serve only clean slices, never a halved fruit with the stone left in.
What to watch for
Signs that the amount was too much:
- crop impaction
- choking
- digestive upset
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for peach, papaya gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat papaya?
How much is too much
Two or three small slices, twice a week, stone and skin removed for small species.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
