- Yes — with limits
- Amount
- One or two small chunks, twice a week. Fresh only, never canned in syrup.
Why
Pineapple is non-toxic and rich in vitamin C. It is also acidic and contains bromelain, an enzyme that can irritate a sensitive mouth or crop in quantity, so it belongs in the treat portion of the diet rather than the vegetable portion. Canned pineapple in syrup is a different food — the syrup is mostly sugar.
How much is too much
One or two small chunks, twice a week. Fresh only, never canned in syrup.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
