Why

Plum flesh is safe but acidic and laxative; too much produces loose droppings. The stone carries the same cyanogenic glycosides as other stone fruit and must be removed. Dried plums (prunes) are far more concentrated in sugar and should be avoided.

What to watch for

Signs that the amount was too much:

  • loose droppings
  • digestive upset

What to feed instead

If you were reaching for plum, pear gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat pear?

How much is too much

One or two slices, once or twice a week.

Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
