Can parrots eat salt?
Toxic
No — parrots need almost no sodium, and salt poisoning kills fast.

- Salt

- Human snack
- Verdict
- No — do not feed
- Safer swap
- Cucumber
Why
A parrot's sodium requirement is tiny. Excess salt causes dehydration, kidney damage and CNS symptoms. Salty snacks also carry oil and additives.
What to watch for
If your parrot has eaten any amount, treat these as urgent:
- excessive thirst
- tremors
- fluid in the lungs
- seizures
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for salt, cucumber gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat cucumber?
